File compression tactics

I have this .avi file that is 712 megs, just barely over a CD. Using Winzip I can only get it down to 705, still too large.

Any other compression software/tactics out there that can squeeze this sucker? I'd like to get this muther off my hard drive...

you might try zipping it as a rar file, or an ace file or both Try to find WinAce, or at least I believe that was the program, it is used by many sites for compressing files, most of which I could not list on here for legallity reasons

bz2 might do it, not sure of windows progs that can do bz2 files, but if you can find one, give it a try.

Um, how about a codec that offers better compression than the one youre using now?

You might consider a file splitter such as one of these.

Gsplit specifically mentions cd's

as for the codec, this is a movie file i downloaded. it's perfectly legal too, i assure you. i don't know how to re-encode it.
