can anyone tell me the fields and keys i need to put in the registry in Windows 2K that will enable any User that logs on to open a .Dat file with wordpad. i can manage to change it for each individual user but that would take me a while and i know the global file association are in..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/CLASSES.
any help greatly appreciated

If you had all the files stored in a single directory on you hd then you can right click the directory (folder) and go to security options where you can set the rights and add and remove who can and can't open, browse, read, write, etc. to the directory and all files in it. Add the user account or modify the one that is already there to allow access to the directory and the files in it. Put a check in "allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" and that should take care of it. Couldn't find a way to set permissions for sinlge file types and set the effect global.
