File Allocation Errors

When I run Norton Systems Works or MS Scandisk, both programs freeze after they scan and find allocation errors. I think I have sufficient memory on my hard drive, over 1 GB on my C partition where Windows is located. Can anyone give me some assistance? Thanks.

Boot your computer into Safe-Mode. Run scandisk from there!
