So how is it? Does it taste special?

Honestly...

I feel like I am running through the rain forest, where the purest rain is falling. I see a waterfall...and at the bottom there is a pristine river, where only virgins bathe.

That was after the first sip...we'll see what happens next.

A co-worker gave a good description: It has the texture of watery unflavored geletin. :)

Later, I finally read the label on one of the bottles and it said the smoothness has to do with the high amount of silica in the water. So- sandy water tastes smooth.

101 Dumbest Moments in Business
20. Fiji Water
Crisp. Refreshing. And only ever-so-slightly poisonous...
Los Angeles-based Fiji Water runs magazine ads for its bottled water with the headline "The Label Says Fiji Because It's Not Bottled in Cleveland."

Cleveland officials retaliate by running tests revealing that Fiji bottled water contains 6.3 micrograms of arsenic per liter, while the city's tap water has none.

Fiji counters by saying its own tests found less than 2 micrograms per liter.

Yep Fiji's counter was it only has this much poison, not that much. :awe:

lol. Wish I didn't ignore this thread after day 1.

that is AWESOME!

Yep, I just read that this AM. What a stupid move by the government of Fiji. Raise taxes that only affects one company. So instead of generating more money, the company gives a giant finger and says "seeya!". Now you are out the prior income, jobs, and everything else associated with it.

Pretty much.
Not to mention the worst part, I'm out of the best water!!!!

/me ducks the ATOT flames.

Or maybe...it was a tactical move by the government Fiji to purposely run them out. Then they take over the defunct business and sell the water on their own under a similar label taking all the profits.

...hmmmmm

If the product is the same, I don't care who is making the profit.

LOL, bottled water.

Aimed specifically at people who are willing to spend money on something they can get for free.

I don't buy bottled water that often, and certainly never pay a premium when I am forced to buy it. However, the folks claiming water is just water are only partially correct. Yes, there is such a thing as just water, but the problem is that water is an excellent solvent. That means that things that aren't water can remain dissolved in your just water.

When I go backpacking I have a pump and tablets that I use to treat water. I always notice a difference in the water I use my tablets on (they are chlorine based) compared to when I just pump the water or boil it. So saying that all water tastes the same is asinine at best and straight up dangerous in some situations.

I technically have free water. Technically meaning that the only cost to me is the electricity it takes to pump it out of my well. Of course there's the issue of the well costing a measly little $25,000 to drill and run into my house. And the other issue of it being one step short of brine and virtually undrinkable.

But hey, it's free right?

Really? Where can I get free water.

When I lived in a national forest for ~6 months, I had about 4 or 5 places I could go to fill up my 7 gallon jug, and this was in Nevada, so I would think that finding free water elsewhere should be easier. Although, I have never been in this situation in the east, but do remember lots of standpipes in the cemetery where I grew up in Ohio.

I agree, although I think that's perhaps going too far, as the point most were making (at least what I believe was) is that if you process water that the end result should be basically the same. Most of these places are not doing anything really much different than the others, and nothing that should account for apparent obvious taste differences. There were some reasons for the alleged difference for Fiji water presented, but none that outright rule out bias situations (for instance, just the difference in the taste of the bottles, let alone getting into things like marketing, etc). In your example, there's obvious reasons for the taste difference, but there shouldn't be in average bottled waters.

As mentioned 15 times before, Fuji has an unusually high amount of silicates and phosphorus due to the volcanic rock it comes from- giving it a very velvety texture. I don't like bottled water as a rule, but when you try this stuff cold you tend to say "wow, that's pretty good!"
