Fiji... anyone ever been?

I am planning our vacation for this fall and I am in charge of finding the resort.
Has anyone ever been to any of the 300 islands that make up Fiji?

Can you tell me where you stayed?
We are looking for specific things: very romantic, secluded, NO regular hotel rooms. either bungalows or bures (cottage) something like this

I would appricate any input that anyone has!

Seriously, I looked at that area when planning the honeymoon and unless I had 2 weeks to spend on vacation I wouldn't head that direction. Too much vacation time lost in travel.

So beautiful. Never been but I did watch a special on Fiji, apparently you will get some of the best sleep in your entire life when a downpour hits.

no way we are loaded ... there are some good deals to be had, but there are sooo many islands and resorts that it is confusing.
I am just so confused on where to look and where to go.
We are chosing 7 days because my dearest hubby gets bored rather quickly just relaxing and soaking up sun, so that is the perfect amount of time.
We normally fly to hawaii so this is a bit longer! (ok, like 6 hours longer, but we feel its worth it!)

I'm probably going back to Aruba in July however, and I can't wait . It's affordable at this time, but we may possibly choose somewhere else. Aruba was just so good that I don't want to go somewhere new and it not be as nice, then wish I was in Aruba.

EDIT: Oh yah, also I've never been to Fiji, sorry . I think Mill has been to the French Polynesia though. I remember him posting about it before. Maybe he's been to Fiji?

You can get them as low as $600-$700/night if you look around. Maybe lower.

I'm not going anywhere exotic until at least 2008...plenty of time to save up.

that not as painful. but only for a special vacation like honeymoon. Imagine going for a late night swim by just stepping out of your room. or even late night skinny dipping with ur SO.

hmm i was looking at google maps. Bora Bora isnt part of Fiji. It's part of French Polynesia. Close to Fiji, but I dont its part of it.

I know we got similar tastes dude ... if you were me, would you go back to Aruba this summer, or are there other places you would recommend? The only tropical place I've been is Aruba, and you know how much I enjoyed it there.

I know you have been there, as well as other tropical places, so you can compare it to toher places. Would you say to try a new place, or to go back to Aruba and just live it up there. My GF kind of wants to try a new place, but I want to go back to Aruba. But at the same time, it would be kind of cool to check out some new places. I just don't want to go to some place like the Bahamas and it be all trashy and not safe, and not have as much of a good time as I would have had in Aruba.

We were thinking Belize a while back, but more and more research I did there seemed like it wouldn't be as fun. I mean it seems like you can't even just walk in the ocean from the beach because of the rocks everywhere, and that to get into the water, you have to go on a dock. The water also doesn't seem that clear there compared to Aruba.

Ahhh, Bora Bora... definitely on my list of "must see" places...

I am not sure if you knew or not, but I've been to Aruba before. And yes I know it kicks ass and that's why I want to go back, but I also want to see other places too heh. The Aruba House looks amazing! I stayed at the Amster Damn Manor when I went, and we may stay there again when we go back.

Why not vacation in a non-resort area? I mean like Asia or something, where you can still get the resort feeling, but experience much much more.. or a safari in Africa? Broaden your minds people

Yes, it is. I just noticed that Aruba started running commercials around here. I'm not sure if it's because of that dumbass that went and got herself killed or if it's a national thing. Really makes me want to go back.
