Figuring out an ip address

hey,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a computer at home but when i go to school i bring my laptop to school and i was wondering if anyone knows how to figure out what my computers ip address is so that ftp into it to get files off it. if anyone knows how i could figure this out. my dad is at home and has access to the computer so if there is a program or anything let me knwo. thanks
 
ifconfig or ipconfig, depending on whether it's a form of unix or Windows.

But chances are your school won't let you run servers on their network.
 
Based on the tone and language of your post I'd guess you're reasonably new at networking.

I believe this is something that you are going to have difficulty getting to work.

Are you running a router at home? That's going to make a big difference. What type of firewall do you have at home?

It's not as simple as an IP address.
 
Why is everyone making this thread so difficult?

He is running a FTP server from home.
1. Get the IP address to your computer at home: www.whatismyip.com. If you are behind a router, like LsDPulsar mentioned, there will be a couple steps after this. If not, you should be able to connect to that IP from school, and transfer via FTP.
