Figuring Out AGP Card for older MoBo

Hey All,

I've got a friend who has a BX6-2.0. I've looked through the entire manual for AGP version or voltages. Nothing. My guess is that this must be a first revision AGP slot, so they wouldn't have bothered noting the info since it was the only game in town. If anyone has any other info on this mobo's AGP spec, please let me know.

The problem I'm having is knowing what sort of card I could upgrade him to. Currently he has an older Nvidia TNT2-Ultra based card. I'd like to set him up with one of the cheaper OEM GF2-GTV cards or possibly a GF4-MX... but I can't seem to get any direct info telling me what would be compatible and what wouldn't.

I have worked with newer motherboards which plainly state that you must have AGP cards of certain spec to work properly with the newer board, but not the other way around.

Thanks in advance for any help you can render,

Joe

All I can say and go by is my fileserver board which is a Shuttle HOT661P, a first generation BX (not coppermine capable, ATA33 etc) and it has AGP2X and works fine with a GeForce-2 GTS or a GF2 MX400, I haven`t tried anything better as it was my main machine and when I upgraded to the Athlon, the GTS was transferred and a fileserver doesn`t need much of a Gfx card (it has a Riva128 AGP in there now)..

I can`t see a problem as the BX6 is more advanced than the shuttle, I`ve yet to see a BX board with AGP1X, I think that was the early LX ones..

My i440LX board has the original AGP spec and I believe I can't use anything higher than a TNT2 in it, and even that may not work. So I have a Voodoo3 3000 PCI. :)
