Hi everyone,

So I finally got a decent tripod and ballhead. My original budget was $150, and I managed to come in at...

*drumroll please*

$135!

Legs: Manfrotto 055CL: $75
Head: Manfrotto 488RC2 with Manfrotto 3232 Tilt Head $60

I got a heck of a deal on the head, and boy is it a well-made piece of kit. A very gentle turn of the knob locks down everything super-tight.

Now for the only question I have left:

The seller included a Manfrotto 3232 Tilt head in the 488RC2 deal. Should I leave it mounted on top of the 488, like in the below pic?

...or should I simply use the 488RC2 by itself? I can see how the tilt head would allow me more freedom when using the camera vertically, but at the same time it also is one more thing to have to adjust...

Why not just throw it in your bag and have it available if it is needed?

Good point, that's what I might do. Although it would be a hassle to have to unscrew and re-mount the quick release plate every time I want to use the tilt head.

I would just experiment with having it on and off. Find out which shoots your shooting style better. Honestly, it's not going to make much of a difference either way, so just choose whichever way feels more natural.

If you want the best support out of your system, reduce the number of linkages. I.e. don't use the tilt head. I've never needed one with my 488RC2.
