Not many of you novice 8k7a builders will have this problem, as you're most likely
smarter than me.....but should you, file this advice away as it'll save you four hours
of $hit.
I bought the 8k7a, a 1.2TB/266, 256meg of crucial DDR, new Antec SX830.
Transferred my IBM 75gxp 40gig hd, Teac SCSI burner and reader on adaptec
non boot scsi card (1715?) along with a SB Live, ms optical USB mouse,
Kingston ether card and an Elsa Erazor X Geforce video card.
Before doing this, on my old system, I transferred Win95, win98 and win98se files
to a single cd for a nice clean format and install and made a startup disc.
Moved everything over and bios had fsb at 100 by default, which was making
my cpu a 900mhz......no problem, i jacked it to 133 and it was 1.2....off we go!
Startup disc loaded fine, found scsi card and drives
but when I went to read the cd, it would only show me like 1/3
of the file i knew were there and the rest were a bunch
of gibberish like boxy smiley faces and strange symbols.
After messing with it for an hour or two, I got to reading the manual
and realized that when that board was made originally, there weren't
1.13 or 1.2 tbirds, but only 1 giggers that used the 100mhzx10fsb, not 133
and if you are going to that amt, you hafta move jumper JP4, to go 1/3
instead of 2/3 bus multiplier.
I was just choking my scsi card which was putting errors up.
Again, if it hadn't been scsi, wouldn't have mattered, but for those
of you doing 1.2's or higher on 8k7a's, don't forget to move
JP4 to 1 and 2 instead of 2 and 3 pins
Just some advice from a DUMBA$$
Now that that's all cleared up, all I can say is I "LOVE" this board!
heheh
