Wow, watching one of the preliminary matches, all I can say is the Ultimate fighters can't punch or defend against the punch for shite -- terrible, terrible technique as compared to even the most pedestrian pro boxers.

Dude.. this is KSW, a Poland organization, meaning the level is pretty damn low compared to UFC/Strikeforce/K1.

Watch some K1 if you're into striking... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=badr+hari+&aq=f

But yes, for the most part mma fighters don't have that great striking compared to elite boxers. Over time when MMA fighters get paid more, the best boxers will crossover and make the transition and we'll have some really crazy skilled MMA fighters.

Though, there are exceptions like Vitor Belfort who have tried professional boxing and have quick hands. KJ Noons has pretty decent hands as well.

lol. You clearly did not see the fight between Couture and Toney. Here take a look:

http://vodpod.com/watch/4360190-ufc-randy-couture-vs-james-toney-full-fight

Well, now I clearly have seen the fight you linked to, piglet, and my opinion remains unchanged.

Care to tell @ what specific timeframe(s) in that clip you think either fighter displays good punching technique or good defensive technique?

404 Not found.

Dude, in addition, any decent pro boxer has training and reflexes enough to at least skip out of the way if the other guy dove at his legs, and the best would be pounding the lunger's brain pan silly as they did so.

The hell you calling them ultimate fighters for? The sport in which they participate is Mixed Martial Arts and they aren't in the UFC(Ultimate Fighting Championship). Btw I'm picking Pudz.

Perknose as much as I love boxing, very few boxers would be able to do what you're saying and the ones that could couldn't do it to the uttermost top guys. You ask me who would win Mike Tyson or a prime Royce Gracie in bare knuckles old school UFC style? I'd pick Tyson. You ask me to pick between Alistair Overeem and Tyson I'm probably going to pick Alistair. Hardly anyone in MMA could strike with a top level boxer, but there's almost no boxers who can hang with top MMA guys once the fight hits the ground.

If you want to see someone who puts people on the ground and makes that shit look easy. Look at the up and comer Jon Jones who is fighting at 205 in the UFC. If he puts hands on someone they are going to the floor if he so much as wishes it.

lol. Clearly you have not seen many of Couture's fights. Toney has 44 wins by knockout as a pro boxer, that's a decent boxer. Couture displayed great punching technique while he was dominating Toney on the ground.

lol. MMA fighters train to avoid this and they still get taken down. What makes you think a boxer with no experience is going to be able to avoid it? lol. Everyone knows this.

Thats not even close to being true...

A boxer fighting MMA rules will never beat a MMA star....
A MMA fighter fighting under boxing rules will never or should never beat a true boxer!!

I agree. They only have a puncher's chance:

What I'm saying is, when boxing dies all those athletes will start training MMA only, so MMA will have all the athletes under boxing and MMA, thus we'll have much more elite athletes.
