There are all these hackers out there, trying to find way to RUIN our Computers & our time. Where are the ones that want to help out & defeat them? With all these companies out there that will PAY people to prevent, they sure are doing a LOUSY job.

Is there something that will take spam & send it back to the Spammer multiplied by 100,000? Or overload a Spammers network? If so, I'd like some help. I keep getting these Russian type emails in Russian type, up to 15-20+ a day. They seem to be computer related, as in business, uprading, etc. Hell, they overtake the number of Sex & Drug Spam I recieve 20 to 1 !

Please tell me there's a program out there that I can use to send all these emails back in multiple numbers. I have SpamPal but this is a WEAK program that just labels an email as spam & let's you decide if you want to delete or not!

Well if there were someway to overload them. Or perhaps make a website that they're promoting or advertising to get a million hits that thier promoter will not pay them because there was no way that could happen.

We need to fight Spam with Spam. If someone's trying to CHEAT by trying to get you to click on a certain link, well, just have something that makes it click the link a million time to make the actual deal look suspicious so the spammer won't get paid because it looks bogus to the boss/company he's promoting.

Sounds good to me.

Not a very good idea. You would be hurting many innocent people doing this. Most spam comes from web servers and is almost never sent from a valid account, you would be over-loading a mail server that most likely has no ties to the spammer

What company are you paying to stop your spam?

No, because the email addresses they are using are forged or faked, so either you're going to spam yourself with rejection notices, or spam some innocent person. Someone here did let me in on a new technique which punishes spam, called "tarpitting", which keeps the connection open that the spammer is making with their smtp relay, as if it's a really slow dialup. Their smtp relay will stay on that connection until it's finished or a timeout is reached. So you've taken their 500 emails per hour and slowed it to 50 emails per hour, effectively cutting their efficiency by 1000%. I haven't run across any products that uses tarpitting yet, so maybe it's just a conceptual idea right now.

Another problem with spam now is that much of it is being generated by zombie networks (thousands of machines infected by a bot, being used as a distributed network for spamming). There is ways to block all of that though.

Optimized Realtime Blackhole Lists (RBL)

Using that list will block known spammers, proxies, known zombie networks, and any dynamic IP address (for dialup and broadband accounts, since all legitimate email goes out the ISP mail server). I just looked at SpamPal real quick and it's RBL based, so this list will work great for you. Just create a rule in your email client to move tagged messages to a Spam folder.

Spammers = send you loads of junk
You = Send spammers back loads more of junk
You = Spammer

Exactly, most spam comes from infected PC's that are mindless bots. The users usually have no clue they are infected and spamming.

By sending email back, you would likely just show them that your email is checked regularly or something.

What is your current RBL list? What are you using to tag your emails? (example, "This-Is-Spam: Buy Some Dis0unt Drugz")

Yes, but you still have to manually delete this crap.

What about spammers specifically targeting a company? Can we not target the company with the Bombardment of the Spam emails we recieve from the Spammer x 1000? Would this not hurt the spammer ?

Most things I hear about this subject are negative. If there's a way to crack anything there's a way to crack these spammers. And If there's a way to crack these spammers, this cracker is going to get rich quick. Very surprised it has yet to be done.

Has been suppressed, but not eliminated............. Why not ?

No, your inbox rule can also purge the messages immediately, if you feel confident enough that they're spam.

I'm willing to help you out with your spam problem, if you want - or is this thread just about fighting back? If you spam them, and get caught, then you get sued and/or go to jail, not them.

The cracker is not going to get rich quick. He/she will spend their own time and resources fighting a lost cause, and/or going to court to defend their actions and most likely lose. The ones making money from this are the spammers, and the antispam vendors. You have to decide which side you want to take.

Besides, how can you make money when you already have volunteer organizations like Spamhaus already building up lists of known spam operations. Those lists are used quite effectively in blocking all email from those sources. Most antispam softwares (that you pay for) will drop the connection before that email comes through, so you lose very little bandwidth and no storage space in favor of a little processing time. Another free method is the DCC (distributed checksum clearinghouse), which tracks Bulk email and uses thresholds to determine their spaminess. Although that's a little more risky because newsletters and mailing lists will get caught.

Check out this link for a full list:

I'm going to start testing out this SpamPal, it's rather simple application plus additional plugins make it quite a robust antispam solution for home desktops.

So far I've found a DCC plugin, called the "Peer to Peer" plugin, and even has a Bayesian plugin currently in development. The BadWords plugin would make a simple content filter (I've built up a keyword list over many years that is quite effective), and it even has a URL-Body plugin which runs the RBLs against all of the links in the email as well. Spamhaus started including the link-to domains in spam and not just sent-from domains.

Will have to start playing with this new toy sometime this week...

Install the BadWords plugin, and block ? and ?. That's assuming BadWords will include letters that aren't ascii text.

If you look at the email headers, and can confirm they're all coming from russian servers, you could also use one of the country specific RBLs and block all of Russia.

Unfortunately, real smtp relays aren't also used as the web servers, and spam sources are increasingly zombie networks, so I don't think that will work. :p Nice try though!

I downloaded the "Bayesian" filter for SpamPal. It seems that this is going to end up working for 99%+ of the spam. I'll look into this purging once this filter learns 200+ messages as spam :)

I want this crap gone before it hits Outlook Express!
Is there a way to do this?
