FIFA president calls for tighter uniforms...

if those soccer players looked similar to the Brazilian Soccer Team Playboy spread--i'd be a fan for life. seriously.

edit: no, seriously.

take a que from womens volleyball

It will probably never be popular as other mainstream sports. Women's sports hardly get televised and a lot of other both gender sports. It is ashame but that is how it is 🙁

Koing

for the women? awesome🙂 one of my major gripes with women soccer, super ugly uniforms they stole from the men😛 they look like men with em on.. why would i watch ugly inferior wannabe men when i can watch real men😛 the pants are so baggy on the women its like they are wearing sacks😛 the uniforms just scream "i'm a butch lesbo, leave me alone"!

Brandi Chastain created the signature moment at the 1999 Women's World Cup when she removed her shirt to reveal a sports bra, celebrating her winning kick in the U.S. victory over China in the title game.

She said Blatter should direct his energy to develop the game.

"Anyone who thinks that a uniform will draw people to the game is severely off base," Chastain said. "The game of football itself is what brings people to the stadium, not what the players are wearing. He should continue to focus on the development of the women's game rather than trying to sexualize it."

heh bull, she got her momment cuz of the bra. a moment where people saw she wasn't a butch lesbo and kinda cute😛
if football players wore unmanly uniforms sure no one would watch.

No kidding.....what a hypocrit. The general public can probably name 2 women soccer players, Brandi Chastain (can't spell it) and Mia Hamm. People know Mia b/c of her skill and affiliation with Gatorade and Nike and people know Brandi b/c of the sport bra incident. That made her popular and got her a TON of money and now she has the nerve to say it's all about the game and has nothing to do with sexuallity....hypocrit indeed.

And let's face it, women's sports (with the exception of volleyball) is just not as fun to watch as mens if we are talking straight talent.

i think it would be a good way to set positive body images for young girls.

...oh you mean as something for young girls to apsire to right? Yeah I totally agree. Trim and healthy, not freakin' anorexic. Seriously, I knew so many girls in college that, even though they were thin, were still flabby and out of shape. They figured that since they were naturally thin that they really didn't need to do any physical activity.

I mean, lazy is lazy, no matter how it's disguised.

And then, at the same time soccer-chicks don't look anorexic either...'cause if they were then they'd be too fragile for the sport. Seriously, have you ever tried to out eat a soccer girl?

Wearing less clothing to gain viewership is going to change the body image of female soccer players? Well yes, I guess you're right, it will - from athletes to something less. Let's teach young girls to dress even trashier, good idea.

She's saying that it will teach them to be healthy and fit, rather than anorexic.

i don't mean in the being naked to sell your sport way but i mean in the not trying to starve yourself into looking like jennifer annistin, natilie portman or lara flynn boyle

The suggestion by Blatter raises an issue that has confronted women's sports ? particularly tennis and golf ? for some time. Do the players need to draw on their sex appeal to make their game more appealing to a mostly male audience, or should their athletic achievements stand on their own?
Yes, women suck at sports and men won't watch them until they show a little leg...

Hey, I say do away with uniforms all together if you want to attract viewers... I'll buy the soccer package my cable company offers if they all start playing in the nude. Ugly or not, a naked woman is a naked woman 😀

well, its not that. its simply ugly. womens professional basketball and soccer on any decent scale is a recent invention. and they chose to directly imitate the men, a bad idea. is womens tennis somehow poorer because the women wear skirts? hell, the women have more viewers then the men now even.

That would make sense if the soccer players were currently anorexic and were being given advise to eat more rather than take more off. When more fourteen year old girls end up seeing more soccer games because their fathers and brothers have tuned in to "look at dem hotties" what's the message that teen is taking away? "Athletic girls can be attractive too" or "Oh, so all I have to do is wear less clothing to get noticed"

Dollars and cents it's hard to argue with. It will get more viewers. But trying to promote it as doing any women a favor in society is pretty laughable.

Yeah, because they play a better game right now.
