I was discussing this idea with a co worker today. I would be interested to see sports games take on individualized roles, where the player controls only one player. This would definitely be a step away from the manager/coach aspects of what commonly grace sports games.

Sure, there will be that one guy you'd want ejected/kicked from the game because of bullheadedness or grief-ing, but it seems most sports in real life tend to be that way anyway. Heck, I just saw a video of a HS football team where a Running back ran the wrong way towards his own goal post when pitched the ball, and be before getting tackled he throws the ball in the air!

So, if such an online franchise were ever to exist, I think we'd see it in the form of Soccer game.

I'm more of a Smashball fan (Half-Life 2 mod), but I would really like to see individuals taking the virtual fields instead of just a bunch of people playing coaches in games that get outdated every year.

Plus, with customizable features you're guaranteed not to get sued over copying player stats into your game.

Wait around for 21 other players to be matched up.....
Player A is a ball hog and doesn't pass....
Wait around and rarely touch the ball....
Nothing happens....
2 minutes of total ball control for each player in a 90 minute game...
Man, that's just like real soccer!

bots for pick up games that need to fill up quick, and leagues for dedicated players.

And if they made a baseball mmo you could be that kid in right field picking at the grass.

Currently i have fifa 2010 installed in my PC.Graphics wise the game is just superb but the play options is far from real ,for example when you will play in a pro mode the challenges given to you are sometimes nonsense like you have to touch the ball 30 or more time in a 2 min game which is quite unreal.
I hope they sort out this issue in the next version.
Overall the game is quite enjoyable and yes the customization option is good but you have to be careful in copying the players.

free games are always good

can we also be crowd members and play those annoying buzzing instruments throughout the game?

Ive thought of this years ago. (minus the horns)
I used to run successful NBA Live and Madden online leagues (PC). These things used to be built INTO the game with dedicated servers and the whole nine yards. We often wished that if you saw a league game in progress, you could "join" the game as a spectator. It would have been so incredibly cool.

I kinda like the idea of the OP... though who gets to take main positions like QB or pitcher?

They have at least incorporated the "Make and Player" aspect more and more wher you can just play your player etc and build them up over time. Though the feature is WAY too easy at this point and you can have an ultra-star within a year or two of playing.
