Okay let me walk you through a couple things on this one.

I ordered the "RETAIL" boxed FIC Radeon 9700 from newegg. Number one, it came in a white plain box...with the card, connectors, manual, cd etc etc...no fancy box like I was thinking. No big deal.

Take the card out....This card looks exactly like an actual ATI 9700 Pro....(yes I know most are following reference design). This thing actually has the ATI sticker on the fan instead of a FIC sticker like Ive seen. It even has the power circuitry heat spreader on it!

Tonight when I get off work im gonna install the thing and test it out, see what I come up with. Its just really odd that it looks exactly like an ATI board, doesnt have any FIC stampings on it or anything.

Memory chips are stamped: Samsung 232, K4D263263RA-GC2A

Little bit of an update. I shouldnt say plain white box, it does have a sticker on the side with barcode and bunch of numbers. Still by no means a retail box.

Contents inside were actual FIC manual and driver cd and all the appropiate cables you would get with a normal one. Just seems bizzare. Going to install right now

Just seems bizzare

Not bizarre, due to the high demand of 9700 cards through 3rd party OEM's, ATI shipped their own cards through 3rd party channels to keep up with that demand.

Eh..im not complaining. Im just glad I got the thing.

Okay, here we go with the testing so far.

Default test/benchmark in 3DMARK2001: 10674 May seem a bit low, but Im on a 1900+ AMD and Ive heard the card is CPU bound at 1024x768 anyways. No tweaking either so far. I just uninstalled the Kyro II card that was holding me over, slapped in the new Radeon 9700 and downloaded the newest drivers.

Played UT2003 at the following settings: 1280x1024, 4X AA, 8X Anistropic Filtering, everything set to high details. Gorgeous and super smooth....I was digging it big time!

Im happy to see ATi has released such a magnificiant product. Now.....I wonder how far this thing will overclock? Hmm....Im tempted to try, but I dont really need to! Haha!

EDIT: While im digging around here, I downloaded Rage3D tweak just to make sure the card was clocked at the correct speed. It is. Is there any special settings in Rage3D tweak I should enable for better performance? I thought I seen a guide somewhere at one time on this that covered Rage3D pretty well. I guess it really doesnt matter, Im more than happy with what ive seen so far....but if I can squeeze more out of it....I will! :D

Update

Well, after restarting some programs or drivers were having serious compatibility problems with the video card. My buddy was coming over to play some LAN UT2003, so quickly I formatted the new 80GB hd and threw it into the works. Which Im going to regret, because I'll have to reformat again anyways.

After this fresh install I scored the following on 3DMARK2001 SE:

11897

On the ORB, only one person has posted a higher score with the same processor, and he was in the low 12's I believe. So im very happy now. I still cant get over how smooth the games play!!!

FIC is probably the oem that makes ATI's cards.

the 8500LE by FIC was just an ati built by ati with an FIC sticker pasted over the ATI silkscreen

Yea thats what im figuring snowman. I musta had some kryo drivers lurking on the computer, cuz after the fresh install it performed nearly 1000 marks better. Havent ran the benchmark for UT2003 since I reformatted though.

Processor upgrade is definately on the horizon. The vid upgrade was all part of the big picture. Now...when in the heck are the hammers gonna be ready! Hmm....a nice red MSI KT400 board perhaps coupled with a big hammer and 400mhz DDR. Drool

:D
