I've just got a FIC AN-11 and AMD XP 1600. However, it locks up when booting into win98se and it happens always at the point where the windows logo disappears and the mouse pointer is suppossed to show up. I've tried everything but it didn't help. At last, I forced it to run with 100Mhz FSB... and it suddenly works fine. Does anyone have an idea what the cause might be ???? Thanks for any help.:(

A quick question; did you do a clean install on this system or did you just move the HDD? So far, as amdskip mentioned, it could be the RAM; just curious about the HDD.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I am using a Generic DDR 333 RAM with chips manufactured by Win-Bond (I think). There is something new. I ran the Board with 133Mhz for Ram and 100Mhz for the CPU.. and it also works fine... so, doesn't seem to be the Ram's fault.

To Buz 2b: I didn't do a clean install... I know it won't work with Windows XP... but somebody's told me it should be fine with windows 98SE. And it also runs smoothly, when I set the FSB for CPU to 100Mhz.

Sounds like the CPU is overheating at the high FSB, quite possibly. It might not be adequately cooled to run at it's rated speed. Are you sure that the Heatsink is properly installed, and that you have good ventilation (fans) in your case?

Other than that, I think you might have a problem with the MB drivers since this wasn't a clean install. Shutting down/locking up at the point you describe would be indicative of that. After checking on the HS orientation and the air flow, you might want to "bite the bullet" and do a fresh install.

Okay, guess I will try a fresh install since I dont think my heatsink/fan is that bad (7000rpm).... :p
