Fiber Optic Tree not working right

I have one of those fiber optic Christmas trees, yes a christmas tree, not one of them new fancy holiday trees.

There seems to be something wrong with it. My old AC adapter broke, so I got a new, equal/greater power one in terms of amperage, and the Volts are the same. I found I have to kind of force the tiny plug at the end into the base of the tree but it eventually goes in.

Now there is another problem. That spinning disc inside the christmas tree doesn't spin any more. Is this because of the new power adapter? or the plug thing being too small?

Any suggestions? I will provide any more info if needed.

Thanks

You didn't buy a Christmas tree.

Did you inadvertently plug it in with the + and - poles reversed, if even for a second?

sounds like you burnt the motor.

There was a reason the plug didn't want to fit - its the wrong power supply.

Yeah... you shouldn't use one with higher amperage. Common sense, I'd have thought.

No, because devices only draw as much current as they need. Voltage, on the other hand...

Then why isn't the device working properly?

As stated before, while the amperage and voltage may be within spec, some adapters have the positive pole on the inside of the connector and the negative on the outside and vice versa. That's another thing to check when buying a replacement adapter.

I do have a connecter that fits, its one of the plug in ones from radio shaq.
Unfortunaly I can't plug it into my AC adapter because there is no plug for it. Any ideas? Maby the poles are messed up.

I know the voltage is right, and the amperage is only .5 over spec, plus amperage dosn't matter since the device only draws what it needs. (The guy at radio shaq didn't know this though.)

Nice tip for the 9 year old thread!

/lock it up

At least OP is still active. Did the disc ever start spinning? Was it a polarity problem? Also, I had to laugh at the electrical problem with the tree that was not a "new fancy holiday tree". (I get that it was just a terminology reference)

I bought the tree last year, and it was fine. This year, when I set it up, the lights are working, but they're very dim.

Any suggestions?
