Hi: I have a fiber optic tree where MOST of the fibers light up. Some fibers are not lighting up. Is there anything that I can do to fix the fibers?
Thanks for any advice

Are you sure the fibers are the problem and not the light source? The fibers are just a conduit to carry the light from the source.

The light is working fine and is changing colour normally. 95% of the fibers do light up but I have a few fibers that don't light.

Most likely something shook loose inside that blocking those select tubes.

You'll have to put an OTDR on each fiber and find the break, after which you'll likely have to repair with a fusion splicer to restore functionality. Sorry.

Thank you for the replies. I thought there might be an easy answer but I guess not.

The way these work is that all the fibre bundles combine into a single smaller area at the base of the tree, and there is a spinning light source so that the colours change. Basically just a regular light bulb or LEDs and a color wheel. It could be that some dirt got inside and is blocking some of the fibres.

I would start by rebooting the ONTs at each end and see if they come back up then if not login to the trunk and run diagnostics. If it's all a certain region that's affected it could also be a transport problem.

I bet it's a token ring tree.

Look for the missing or stuck token.

Comcast decided to rate limit red and green light on those fibers because you exceeded your allotment for the month on those wavelengths. Expect a bill to continue to use those colors through the rest of December. ;)
