Fiance doesn't think I should be mad after she smashed my car

So my fiance was taking my scion tc to the doctor today, in a hurry I might add. I had parked it in the garage, so she had to back it out and around her truck, which was parked perpendicular to the garage. It's a pretty hard thing to do, you have to do it very slowly and carefully; I have to use the little panoramic stick on mirrors.

So she comes inside 5 minutes after leaving the house, tells me to come outside and not to be angry. She had dented the rear side panel on the car against the bumper of her truck. On the tC, since it's a coupe, this isn't a small thing. It's probably the largest piece of sheet metal on the entire car.

I am fuming, screaming at her while she is trying to tell me "it's just a dent, it will pop out". Uh, no. I popped out the interior panels, tried to see if it would pop out. It did, but only partially, and the sheet metal is creased for a good 2 feet. She would have HAD to have kept backing up even after hitting her truck because there are bumper scrapes for the entire length of the crease. I've tapped her bumper before backing out, but I go so slow, I realize it, stop immediately without damage, and back around it again.

So I'm still fuming when she comes home (after taking her truck) and she's catty at ME because she doesn't think I should be so upset about it. "It's only a car". Seems cavalier about how much this is going to cost us like money grows on a fvking tree. Doesn't understand why I haven't taken it to a shop already, when I'm trying to calm myself down so I don't take a golf club to the windows of her truck.

So, the question is, are you able to calm down, write it off as an accident, and put a happy face on less than an hour after this happens?

No shit? Around here we take our cars to a mechanic or something. 😛

I'd be pissed too, you have every right to be.

"Fuming and screaming" seems a bit overboard to me in this situation. I'd be upset, not sure about the screaming though.

No offense, but grow up. I side with her on this one. It's just a car, and it's not like it's a Ferrari 250 GTO or something. This is what body shops are for. I do think she should pay for your body work (or, if you elect to file a claim, it should be on her insurance if your state permits that), but I can't see being anything more than a little annoyed by this. People make mistakes, and you yourself admit this was a tricky piece of backing out. It's not as though she did this on purpose.

I'd be mad, but not mad enough to post about it on ATOT.
Let bygones be bygones, for now, but explain to her 1. how easy it is to move her truck to avoid something like this and 2. to use her truck, that's what it's there for.

I'd be pissed as hell, but then you shouldn't have yelled at her (from what I'm reading) so much.

That, and was it far enough away that she had to take your car over her truck.

Also, why is she in a truck and you in a girls' car?

that was an accident waiting to happen.

but anyways, she is your fiancé, and you love her. she didn't do it on purpose.
you've got to forgive her and move on. no sense in letting it eat you up in side. let it go.

It's clear you attach more value to your car than sex.

Good luck with that.

I'd be pretty pissed, but in the end, it was an accident. Give yourself some time to cool off and don't say anything in anger that you'll regret later.

LMAO! Like the tc is a vw bug? Of the dozen or so tc's I've seen in my area only one has been driven by a female. The stupidity of that comment is enough to put me back in a good mood. 🙂

So... Why was she trying to drive your car when she had you parked in? That doesn't make any sense.

Her own vehicle was more accessable so why not just drive her own car? I feel like I'm missing something.

it's just a scion, man, don't get that pissed off.

Yeah, it's her fault and she was being careless, but she didn't try to ding your car, and if you stay with her for a while she sure as hell will put dents in everything you ever buy with wheels on it.

Just get the damn thing fixed - doesn't comprehensive insurance cover stuff like this?

Edit: now that you've calmed down, this would be a great opportunity for makeup sex! do it!

because her truck is a POS that we generally don't like to drive more than a couple miles in, and besides that, it doesn't have AC and it's 90 degrees outside.
