Okay, im a fairly experienced computer user, having built my system and whatever. Today, i bought an Acer 20x10x40 cd burner and i installed it. I first removed the old burner, then put in the new one. To my chagrin, easycd platinum tells me that there is no compatabile device present when i try to record. When i go to the device manager, the burner is installed properly, or at least appears to be. Nero wont work either. The only program that lets me even try to burn a cd is "Prassi primo cd" that came with the burner. Howver, when the cd is finalizing i get an error, and end up with a coaster.

Currently, dvd is master, cdrw is slave.

Can anybody help me out here>?

What versions are you using for Adaptec and nero? Usually you need updates to get the newer CDRWs working. Try download Nero 5.5.6.5? Something like that, i've downloaded too many leaks to remember. Anyways, try not to install too many burning programs at once, they usually conflict. Nero and cloneCD is usually all you really need.

Also what CDR or RW are you using? Generally anthing higher than 16X you would probably need that particular rating or you have to burn slower. 16x you can usually burn fine with as low as 4x or even 2x CDRs.

With CDRW there are two main types 4x and 10x. You need 10x to get that fast, they are made different than 4x ones. The 10X ones are usually pretty expensive too and have a bit more compatibility issues than the 4x CDRWs.

BTW what OS are you using? If its XP turn off teh built in burner in the "services" option.

Check the Device manager in Safe Mode. Sometime things show up that may surprise you.
Delete all the cd and cd-rw, and DVD
Change the Acer to the Master, forget about the DVD for now
Cross your fingers, boot up and try again.
When everything starts working put in the DVD.

AND only have one burner program installed at one time, Nero is great.

That depends...some cd-rws only like being a master...do you do a lot of cd-on-the-fly copying??? You may want to avoid being on the same channel then.

hypothetical:

If you don't use the dvd-rom to load programs and transfer data (ie dvd ripping) put it as the primary slave...Then put the cd-rw as secondary master and the 2 cd devices can be on separate channels...
