FFXI or Lineage II or City of Heroes

So I made this separate thread. Having played the WoW stress test, I definately will be getting it. In the mean time though, I'm looking for a MMORPG to tide me over. Since I'm definately only going to play until WoW's release, you could reccomend the one that will give the most immediate gratification. I hear a lot of you say you got sick of FFXI quick, so maybe that's the one I'm leaning towards. But if it's not even fun to begin with, I'd prefer Lineage or CoH.

So should I go for FFXI, Lineage II, of City of Heroes for the next few months?

Oh, also, since I'm in the middle of Hurricane Ivan right now, I can't really get to the store to buy any games. If any of these are downloadable so I can get into them today, all the better.



(Then again, with Blizzard, WoW still might not be out for a few more years...)

Bumpity bump. I wanted to hopefully get started today, since I'm stuck inside due to the hurricane with nothing better to do.

I see Lineage is downloadable. I might go with that one then, unless the others are downloadable too. And what about free first months or anything? I'm also a huge FF fan. I can't decide.

I have not played any of these, but I hear alot of good from CoH. I'm curious about lineage II, is that a 15-day free trail?

I've played or tested all of 'em. IMHO:

CoH>Lineage 2>FFXI

CoH is as innovative a MMORPG as you'll find....and most everyone likes it at least for a good month or so. You might be able to DL this....not sure though. FFXI is a clone-ish and console-ish MMORPG where a great majority of the players are Japaneese....this makes it somewhat strange and surreal. This also makes it spinach! (IMO, of course). Lineage 2 is another shamelessly generic EQ clone. It is as generic and boring as CoH is innovative and fresh (IMO, IMO, IMO). Another Asian game (I think Korea this time) so expect alot of non English speakers playing with you.

I have played all but Lineage 2. From what I hear, there isn't much instant gratification in Lineage 2, it is lots of hard grinds to get anywhere. I would say CoH has the most instant gratification as you can make your hero and have some fun with the low levels. The game gets boring pretty quickly, which should do well as you will burn out right in time for WoW.

Oh, and didn't mention FFXI because I doubt you will find much instant gratification in it. Although, I had some fun times in the month that I played, I wouldn't exactly suggest it unless you plan to continue playing it for longer. The most gratification you'll get will be getting a chocobo before quitting.

CoH is a mega grind just like L2 now..
they toned down the exp so its MUCH longer now
it took me about 3 weeks to reach fustration level...
L20 is like hitting a brick wall..
IMO stay away from all 3

City Of Villains is in the works too, so then there will be faction battles between heroes and villains, fortresses to assault, etc.

So is there any way to download CoH? And how much is L2 monthly? I'm downloading it as we speak. I guess FFXI is gonna be out of the question since so many advise against it, not to mention I prefer the download method since it's free.

Actually maybe it's not free. I downloaded Lineage 2, and when I try to make an account for the game it asks for the serial code that came with the game. I didn't get a serial code since I downloaded it. What's the point of downloading it if you can't play it?

I was ridiculously addicted to FFXI for about 3 months (during which time I accumulated ~1 month non-idle playing time :Q). I also tried Lineage II, which I found quite boring, although Chronicle I is out now, which is supposed to have vastly improved things.

I've been playing ffxi since january and am still addicted to it. Takes a little while to get into it...but it's a lot of fun!

Personally I would recommend FFXI but thats just me. I have been playing that game for 8 months and keep coming back to it. Its a beautiful world you can enjoy with your fellow adventurers. The learning curve on it is pretty high though it takes probably a full day of playtime to understand most aspects of the game.
