Well, the Tier1 hoser ran him through a few sloppy steps in setting up his cable modem and registering his connection which obviously didn't work. The tech told amnesiac2.0 that the only option left was to have a tech
back out to upgrade to premium install (+$49.99).
The reason the registration was failing was because the registration requires the use of specific proxy servers, which the tech didn't even mension at all. So I simply set them, stayed with him on the phone to make sure it worked. Then, at the end of the registration, we removed the proxies while his cable modem was rebooting and as soon as the modem connected, he was online.

I should put this process up on an unlinked page on my domain and point this to people for print-out if they're going to change ISPs to ATTBI just so another tech doesn't screw them out of $50 cuz they're too st00pid to read their job walkthroughs. Yes, that's right, folks. Tier1 actually has an on-screen walk-through that they can use if they're smart enough to click a few links to find it.
Meanwhile, it's taken me FORTY-ONE MINUTES AND THIRTY FOUR SECONDS FOR THIS ASSWIPE THAT I HAVE ON THE PHONE TO DO THE SAME DAMN THING... And we're not even to the registration page yet. We've only set proxies. :frown: Can you say "listen and do it right the first time?"
See... this is what makes me appreciate people like amnesiac2.0 who are up to speed, can listen and easily follow directions, and actually understands the purpose of typing little letters on the keyboard and clicking the mouse without going "uh.... what?" after everything I say.
