For Win7 I would recommend shark's (or sharky's?) codec pack.
ffdshow broke a lot of functionality in 7 for me (had to reinstall!!!!!)

That's the one that's still being updated.

Works great for me in Windows 7. I prefer that over those codec packs with a bunch of crap in them.
