FF Code and how to trouble shoot from EPOX

OutHouse

Lifer
Dear User,
Sorry for the troubles. Please try the below steps to help resolve your
issue.
1)Power off. Check JBAT1 for CMOS CLEAR. Set for CLEAR for 5 seconds
than back to NORMAL.
2) Check power supply. Set for 110/115v, not 220 if in USA.
3) Unplug all data cables for IDE and FDD from the motherboard.
4) Unplug all power supply cables attaching to your IDE and FDD devices.
5) Remove all cards and devices EXCEPT for RAM and CPU.
6) Move memory into different bank.
7) Unplug CPU and replug back in.
8) Ensure heatsink/fan is attached to processor properly and the fan is
attached to power connectors.
9) Retest.
10) If 1-9 do not help power off and test motherboard outside case.
Perhaps a motherboard short between the case an board is present.
11) Remount in case. Ensure to use proper brass or plastic standoffs
when mounting case (supplied with case).
12) Possible defective RAM, CPU, POWER SUPPLY or MOTHERBOARD. Swap out
as many as possible to narrow down culprit.
13) Inspect the memory configuration table carefully in the manual and
be sure to use compatible memory modules.

i have done all the steps stated above. even to the extent of trying three different processors and takeing my computer apart for further testing. which i should say was another epox 8k7a motherboard which then failed to post as well

first motherboard did post and went into bios........once in bios screen faded out and monitior went into suspend mode. i then rebooted the computer........this time only would post FF. tried another processor again it went through proper post codes but never made it to bios screen just faded out again and monitior went into suspend

my computer i took it apart to test out the individual parts...............this time my motherboard wouldnt go through the proper post codes. just straight to FF.

this is the third time i have had three of these epox 8k7a's fail me. is it me or is there a big problem with epox 8k7a's that have a high failure rate.

all testing was done outside the case with plenty of parts that i know work

boards were flashed to support XP

Processors used

AMD 1333 bird
Duron 600
XP 1800+

Video cards used

Geforce 3 Ti200
Radeon VIVO 64mb
S3 Virge PCI

Memory that was used

Corsair 256 mb DDR Pc2400
NANYA 256 mb DDR Pc2400

Powersupply's used
Pcpower and Cooling 450 watter
Topower 400 watter
Enlight 400 watter

Cooling used was
Alpha 8045 heatsink with sunon fan

no hard drives were installed during testing...........just what was stated above

problem with Epox is thier RMA service as well as you have to send back to place of purchase. If you buy it used your not going to have a warrantty.

<< I thinks it's the board. I had one fail on me, too. >>

that is my thoughts as well............but to have three of these boards fail on me is getting to be ridiculas not to say the least expensive

well i called Newegg and they are going to refund me. so i am going to get a 8KHA+ in fact i just ordered it with FedEx next day shipping. If i have ANY problems with the 8KHA+ i will never buy a EPOX again.

just beware of the problems epox 8kha+ is haveing with the new GF4 video cards. i am waiting on the epox 8k3a+ to show up as it has full overclocking options in bios. this includes cpu volts to 2.2 and vio and as well as vagp

I have built 12 systems the last couple of months for clients around the 8k7a and they are all running rock solid. So your problem baffles me. Where are you plugging that sunon fan into? Are you using the lead from the mobo? If so, try using a 3-4 pin molex adapter. Now that I am thinking about it when I first got my Alpha I plugged an enermax in that and It would not boot until I used the 3-4 pin adapter. Also when you are installing the alpha are you making sure that one nut in the back does not spin and rip off that little component on the backside of the mobo?

Just had my friend asking me to fix the problem of failed cmos posting in his EPOX 8K7A, tried all things possible, read all reviews and forums but still can't solve the problem, stuck with 95 code on the led display. Finally, I find you guys with the same problem, heheheh... too bad my friend can't RMA-ing his mobo cause he bought it last summer and loss the receipt. Actually, i had good experiences with Epox mobo myself, about 5 rigs I built with Epox, a lil' bit surprise that this type 8k7A has severe problem like this.

the sunon fan on the alpha heatsink has a 4 pin molex connector as such it was connected directly to the motherboard. i used my own special mounting setup for the alpha heatsink as i didnt like the stock setup

first motherboard was working fine 3 weeks ago. i had to leave it sitting till i could get rest of the parts to make a server out of it. when i went to put it back together all of this happened

on my computer which uses the epox 8k7a i used h2o for cooling.........and nylon studs/nuts which has worked fine for me for the last 7 months or so.

Jen, that's the same canned script response I got from them as well. I will never ever buy an epox product again.I just sent back the third 8K7A+ within a month. I just got a refund and ordered the SolTek board. Gonna try it tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes. The purple PCB looks pretty cool 🙂

cablegod i'm looking for something that will allow me to have high voltage to cpu etc. thats been the only reason for the epox 8k7a's . if i can find another board that will do this or have someone mod me one then definitly would go somewhere else. being stuck on a slow system is the pits
