Few questions....

Currently I have 1 stick of Corsair XMS 512MB (rated at CL2) PC2700 in an A7N8X-DLX Rev. 2.

1. I have been successful in getting it to 400MHz at 6-3-3-2. However, I can also get 5-2-2-2 at 333MHz. I was wondering if the 67MHz were worth the small delay. Both are stable enough as far as I need them to run.

2. I've been wanting to upgrade my stock AMD 2500+ (clocked at 200x10 at 51°-52° load) heatsink\fan combo with a Thermalright SK-7 \ Thermaltake smart fan 2 combo with some Arctic silver Cèramique in hopes of slightly lowering that temperature atleast into the lower to mid 40s, possibly high 30s. and was wondering on other recommendations. Is the extra $20 on an SLK-800 really worth it?

3. Finally, I've also been thinking about adding a WD360 raptor drive to replace an aging ATA66 Maxtor 30GB 2MB 7200 RPM drive.

I read somewhere (may have mis read, been a long time) that using the onboard SATA on a motherboard uses one IDE channel (again, better safe than sorry :/). I would be somewhat reluctant to do so if it did considering how I already am running 4 IDE drivers (52x32x52 CD-RW, 32x4x8 CD-RW, 80GB maxtor 2MB, 7200 + 30GB already described) and am not exactly warm to the idea of having to give up two of them without having to purchase a controller card.

Basically, is the limit on an A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2 ATA limit at 4 (2 IDE, 2 SATA) or 6 (4 IDE, 2 SATA) drives?

Thanks for the time 🙂

1) Sync the CPU\RAM speeds for better performance, your timings look fine
2) Heard nothing but good about the SK-7, seems to be one of the best bang for the buck coolers out there
3) Raptor would be a lot faster, but don't know about the IDE thing with it. I'd assume that they wouldn't interfere since the SATA and IDE controllers are on separate chips.

1. Thought so, but since I was asking other questions anyway, thought I might throw it in 🙂

2. So I've heard, SK-7 \ SF2 make a good team, so I've heard, again, just asking while I'm here

3. The reason I came. I'll buy a Promise Ultra133TX2 if I have to, but don't exactly want to spend $33 if I don't have to 🙂 as for the IDE thing, it was probably several weeks\months ago (and hence, very vague), it may have changed. but better safe than sorry 🙂

The IDE\Serial ATA thing is with the Promise SATA controllers, which use ATA-SATA bridges I believe, so the Silicon Image is unaffected by this, but don't quote me on that.

BTW: Welcome to the forums!
