Few questions regarding thermal paste and cooling for a Centrino

Well I'm currently in the process of upgrading my laptop processor to a 1.8ghz Centrino processor but upon tearing everything down, I have realized that the heatsync for the cpu uses a patch of thermal tape instead of thermal paste. What should I do in this situation? Should I remove the thermal tape and swap the cpu and heatsync down with some alcohol? Should I try to apply some thermal paste onto the thermal tape? Or should I just leave it how it is?

Thanks for you help in advance. Would like to get a responce as soon as possible considering the laptop is in 80 pieces right now.

You can take the tape off and use paste as long as the heatsink makes solid contact.
