few questions about Foldings@home

is there anyway at all to make it download a buffer of work rather than just 1? my computer is not permanently connected to the net, so id like to be able to d/l alot of work at once, like i did with the d.net software.

is there a 3rd party util or something that can do this?

also, is there anyway to minimize the console version to the system tray? i hate having a cluttered taskbar with programs i dont need to interact with.

Unfortunately, the way FaH is set up, they send you each wu based on the findings of the one you just finished, so it would be impossible to download multiple wu's like you can with seti ( unless you're running dual processors )--which answers your second question too.

And yes, you can run the cmd line version which would run then as a service, keeping it out of the taskbar. See my sig for links on how to do this

damn, thats the answer i was hoping i wouldn't hear i didn't actually realise how this one worked, thats why i asked.

i guess foldings is more suited to a permanent connection user.

how often are you connected? it only need to contact the server when it's done right? which is usually once a day... altho, its never an exact time of day unfortunately..

im connected each night, but as the time it takes to complete work varies so greatly, its hard to predict.

some work completes within 30mins, others can take hours and hours.

Actually Rusty, if I read their page right, it's based on the findings of wu's not only you, but everyone else that's recently returned a wu.

I think in this case, we're both right, as the wu's you receive are based on the one you (and others) have just done, as it's an ongoing search unlike seti where they have lots of data that just needs crunched, and is not dependant on the one you just did. Thanks for the clarification, bunker
