Few problems with nVidia Drivers

Anyone know how to fix the following 2 problems:

1) Monitor will never enter "sleep" mode. I have 2 monitors & the 2nd one (identical make/model) will enter sleep mode after 20min, but the main one (attached to nVidia card) will never enter sleep mode.

2) When in Coutner-Strike....I can only use OpenGL graphics, and when I do if I enter a game & then exit to the menu, whenever I try to re-enter it will just give me the counter strike background (while I can hear game sounds).

You must be joshing us... after all, everybody knows nVidia *never, never, EVER* has driver problems! Maybe you have a Radeon card cunningly disguised as a Geforce2/3? 😛😛

(I'm just kidding.... stupid zealots in either camp just bug me.)

In a dual card setup.... I dunno. Your display options give you the choice of sleep modes for moth monitors or only one?
For a problem-free dual-monitor setup you may need to consider a single Matrox or ATI card. 😱 Some have had good luck, some have had nothing but troubles with dual-cards.

Well other than these 2 problems, I have NO problems with my setup. Matrox isn't really a option, as I do enjoy gaming. I just know though that when I have all 6 PCI slots filled (plus numerous onboard stuff) I'm just asking for problems with ATi.

That problem you describe seems to be a well known CS and XP problem since it comes up all the time, all you can do is try Win 98 compatiabilty mode (that fixed my CS crash on exit problem) or run in D3D which you say you can`t.

Assuming you have a dual card setup since I didn't look at your system stats, just looking at your post, I am not quite sure about the sleep problem but in mine on some games I have to go to display properties and turn off extend desktop to this monitor setting on my Banshee card. I also run a VT G3 as my main. If I don't on some games the Banshee card is selected instead of the G3. I'm not saying this directly relates to your problem but you might give it shot and see if it does the same thing. I run the 21.83 drivers on the G3.

Yes, to clear up the confusion, I am running a dual-head setup (Geforce 2 GTS & Voodoo 3).

I tried disabling the 2nd monitor "do not extend my desktop...", and it didn't solve the solution. It's nice to know that that problem with CS is actually a WinXP problem & not a CS problem (future Half-Life patch? 😉). I'll try compatibility mode (to Win98), however I think I did try that before (a while ago), and it had no impact on it. I'm re-installing CS on my new winXP later so I'll have to see if I can use D3D again or not.

Still no ideas on the sleep issue though? The screen does go black, but just doesn't turn the monitor off. Do you think it's an issue with how windows turns off the main monitor, or is it just that it doesn't think it supports that feature? If it helps any, when I use the default windows driver it will turn off correctly, but I don't have OpenGL available for RTCW.
