So my laptop top will not pick up any wireless networks but it will work fine when the connection is wired. So far I this is what I and the dell technicians have tried

Reinstalling drivers, trying new drivers, using both the mircrosoft as well as the dell wireless network utility, we have replace the wireless card as well as the antenna and the MOBO was replaced only about a month ago. I have tried all sorts of different networks and locations and distances from routers.

I can't think of anything else to try can anyone please help me. They suggested reformatting but I can't seem to find the windows CD and I don't wanna loose everything or have to ghost all the data.

Thanks!

Please describe in detail what your symptoms are. "can't connect" and "can't pickup" are extremely vague. Describe the exact symptoms.

In the Microsoft wireless networking utility it states that there are no networks available when I know there are.

He typed it wrong. It should be http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html :)

It looks like just about everything that I would suggest is already listed on Jack's site so I won't bother typing it out unless you have any trouble following the directions there.

Many laptops have a button somewhere (usually near the keyboard) that turns the wireless radio antenna on and off. Make sure it is turned on. Some will even have a light indicating that it is on or off. Without knowing your exact laptop model it's hard to say where the button is since different models have it in different places, but if you want to post the model number of your laptop I'll let you know if your laptop has one and where to find it.

Frankly, I'd be surprised that a Dell repair tech wouldn't have checked that already, but it's worth a try since you've already replaced the wireless adapter and re-installed the drivers several times.

When the Dell tech replaced the antenna, do you know if they just replaced the connections in the case where the wireless card plugs in, or if they actually dismantled the LCD screen and replaced the wires inside the screen? It's not likely that those wires would need to be replaced unless they were physically broken and even a broken wire should let you get a limited signal, but I thought I'd ask since it looks like they did just about everything else already.
