I installed the drivers for the sata drive . XP sees the drive as a serial ata drive but the drive doesn't shows up as a sata boot device. I also updated the latest bios but after the updated the bios the screen comes up for the via chipset then xp loads isn't that weired.

After I installed XP with IE it keeps on crashing is there a issue with XP on A64. Plus my segate sata drive is soo loud , I can even hear the noise outside the case is that normal or its a defecive drive.

Specs
Asus K8V SE DLX
A64 3200+, Corsair 1GB DDR3200, Seagate 200 GB SATA.

if youre using the promise controller you should put it to work as a ata drive and not raid in the bios. if it is on raid on the bois. then you have to go into the promise sata bios and setup the drive as a single drive (cant remember the exact name offhand) after that you will see the option to set the drive in the boot menu.

second. whichever one you have the promise controller on (either ata or raid in the bios) you have to load the correct driver for the respective one. other wise when the machine boots up , just before the welcome screen appears it will crash.

double check all the above and instead of reinstalling windows( but this is up to you) you can just pop in the driver disk like you are going to reload and do a repair. that should get the job done

Finally installed the drivers and got the drive to work. I had to use sata raid drivers even though I am using a single sata drive. Are all the sata drives that loud.
