1. Can CPU be upgraded? Seems like there is desktop CPU.
2. 3gb or 4gb of ram in gaming? i dont mind upgrading, but is it really worth it?
3. HDD will WD Velociraptor work inside a laptop?
4. Readyboost? Good small 4gb drive?
5. Suppose with all of the above maxed out, gaming at 1920 x 1080i on external monitor?

1) What are you talking about? The Gateway comes with a laptop CPU, right? But you can replace it with another laptop CPU.
2) Doesn't matter, you won't really notice the difference.
3) Please don't try this. It's really not healthy for your laptop's insides.
4) Doesn't really make a difference since you already have so much ram.
5) You might want a beefier CPU and you will have to turn the details down.

FWIW I recently purchased the P-6831's successor, the P-6860.

1. Yes, but not to a desktop CPU. You can put Intel Socket P processors in it. The T9300 would be a good choice for this laptop.
2. I always go by the maxim "buy as much ram as you can afford" but there's not a big difference between 3gb and 4gb
3. Velociraptor will not work in a laptop because the power requirements are different.
4. dunno.
5. You should be able to game at 1080i on an external monitor no problem. You might have to turn details down in some games but it will work.
