Apparently most are trapped inside the ferry at the bottom of the river. It seems Bangladesh has some sort of ferry accident with huge casualties every few years. Do these people never learn, or what?

Third World Country. No concept of "safety" "structural engineering" "load limits" or reading comprehension for that matter.

Think of all those pics you see from that side of the world with some truck driving down the road, loaded to the GILLS w/bags and boxes and then like 100 people hanging of the truck. That is a normal commute for those people.

There's a reason they still ride donkeys. Safer for everyone that way.

It has nothing to do with concept of safety - they are a poor nation without the resources to regulate/monitor safety like we do, I believe. And the resources that they have are probably more susceptible to getting paid off to look the other way.

I suppose if a US 747 went down and killed 400 people you'd have more compassion because they didn't deserve to die since there are more safety regulations?

Nope. I'd blame a terrorist from Bangladesh or other 3rd world country. People die. Life is harsh. Oh well.

Very few people deserve to die, regardless of race or ethnicity. BUT people over there are much more likely to die than people over here due to them still being in the 1800's technologically speaking.

No, he's right. In third world countries, people just don't care about safety...even for themselves. I see it all the time in India. Its common practice in India for people to ignore warning lights/sounds at railroad crossings. These folks continue to pedal/walk/drive/push cows etc. across the tracks right up until the train is almost on them. We were actually waiting at a railroad crossing when a guy got hit by a train :disgust: And you'd think that when you see a bus with 100s of people inside and another 50 or so on the roof or hanging off the sides...you'd wait for the next one, right? Wrong. Once when I was young my stupid uncle threw my ass into the bus doors and grabbed a hold outside. Whole trip I'm thinking I'm about to die cuz I had nothing to hold on to and this big woman in front of me couldn't hold on well through the turns, so every time she's swaying and nearly knocking me out the bus doors and I had nothing to hold on to (bus doors were open, I'm barely on the steps!)
