Ferrari copystrikes a video of a Corvette because it sounds too much like a Ferarri.

Seriously. When I talk about how retarded IP/copyright law is, this is the sort of stuff I'm talking about. It should not be possible to copyright noise, and that's basically what this is. I hear Harley does the same too. People should be allowed to make their car or anything work/sound the way they want.

Hmm, something about this video is off. I think this person might've outright made this up. He says it probably isn't Ferrari who filed the claim (so don't harass them!), just someone calling themselves Ferrari Scuderia; which is kinda fishy. I think he's trying to get hits off of the other spurious copyright/trademark claims that Ferrari has been pushing out. He knows that'll get views, and this way he can pretend its just some random asshole mad at how good his car sounds or something.

The end of the video where he starts waffling about supposed claims made by other (fanboy) people but then kinda pushes his own fanboy shit, something reeks.

It should not be possible to copyright noise,
So any musician from 2000 and after is out of luck?
Any thing that is made can be and should be copyrighted,if somebody sweated over doing something he(she/it) deserves to get paid for it.
Sound design is a huge selling tool for anything from food and how it sound when you bite on it to yes, cars.

Noise and sound are two very different things.

Yes that's what I said.
If they put any effort in making the engine sound just so then it's not random noise,it's designed sound.

And whoever makes it sound the same probably put just as much effort too. In the case of a car it can easily happen by accident which was probably the case here. It's just physics, the pistons and the way the engine is made etc will just make it make a certain sound. The whole idea that someone can have exclusive rights over a design/sound etc is retarded. If two people work towards a goal and get to that goal they should both be allowed to use/sell/make videos of their work even if it turns out to be similar.

Most electric drills sound the same, imagine if Dewalt decided to copyright that sound now all the other drill companies have to go out of business, and construction channels have to mute out the sound of their drills. Thankfully most companies don't abuse this stuff, but they could.

I think this is the type of discussion that the video creator was hoping to generate.

Well good on him for duping idiots like the OP that apparently can't be bothered to watch the video. Ferrari didn't file a copyright claim and whatever claim was made was general claim that he used video from someone else, he just put a clickbait title on it (which is why I have a hunch this might be a hoax and he was the one that filed the claim to justify the clickbait title, plus ride the wave of outrage over Ferrari's copyright claims), because he seems to be assuming it was done by some Ferrari fanboy mad about him claiming his Corvette sounds like a Ferrari.

I have a really beef towards those who add expensive junk to their cars just to make them louder, the same one about folks that park cars playing loud music in front of my apartment during late at night/wee morning hours.

Yeah noise for sake of noise is silly. I can kinda understand the appreciation of making the motor sound "good" and doing mods like adding turbos and stuff though. It's kinda wanting to make a PC really quiet, but in the car world you actually want the cool vroom vroom sounds. :p Gotta have the turbo spool too, and that vtec kicking in.

Even that has limits- music is considered unique of a minimum of every 3rd note is different. I believe that was a court ruling in the 80's where Paul McCartney was involved.
