2x 480s is actually a HUGE waste at this res. You are unlikely to see much improvement over a single card. You really need either 2560 res or multiple monitors to see a benefit with SLI 480.

By the way, PSU wattage is actually the other way: Your antec is rated to provide 850watts to your system (it can actually do more than that) and it will draw more than that to do so.

Also, there is no way in hell your cpu alone can draw 450watts. That is not even physically possible. ~200 watts for the cpu is about right.

But typically its months to years away, not days away.

Right but the OP was looking at HD6970, 6990 or 2x GTX480s. Where does HD6870 come in when its performance is expected to be near GTX470?

Last I read HD69xx isn't launching until 3rd week of November and 6970 x2 (6990) probably until December. That's months away. :awe:

expected, but in actuality it could be better, it could result in price drops, etc. We will see by the end of the week.

It's not a huge waste, it's a monstrous setup for his res :awe: Crysis with AA, Stalker, Metro, Civ 5, BFBC2, even Starcraft 2 with lots of AA... these are all games that pushed to their highest settings with AA and AF will push a single 480 setup to low frames at his resolution.

There is also the argument for playing less demanding games with high levels of supersampling. That one is more subjective. I really prefer the IQ of SSAA and wish I could use it in every game rather than older titles.

He'll also be good to go for a while on that setup.

I tend to agree. 2x480 is whats needed to actually max out high end games at that resolution.

Wait just a little longer. Its so close to release of ATI's new midrange cards it would be a shame not to see how they stack up (and I really like my GTX 460 1GB).

I'm looking into purchasing either an sli or crossfire setup. It could be 2 gtx480's or 2 6970's or 1 6990. How is sli vs crossfire, scaling etc? Should I get a fermi now or just wait?

depends what games u play.
I would check games I play vs the cards I buy as some games just dosnt work that well with specific games espcially with crossfire/sli.
