Happened at Yankee Stadium a few years back. A steel beam fell and crushed some seats.

A portion of construction scaffolding collapsed today at Fenway Park. The Red Sox said no one was injured. The team is renovating the area behind home plate in what was formerly the .406 Club. Pictures from the scene showed that the scaffolding collapsed onto the seats below

"that ain't nothing" until a big scoreboard above center ice weighing a ridiculous amount all comes crashing down... like in Buffalo a few years ago... imagine that happening during a game. Those things are as wide as half the rink.

Blashphemy! Fenway is a one of a kind baseball experience.

People say that about Wrigley Field, but I still think it's a old beyond being "quaint" or "nostalgic."

Never been to Wrigley, but I've been to Fenway and it's a special place.

I have been to Fenway and I live 2 miles from it. As much as I love it, it needs to be torn down:)

oh, don't get me wrong, it's got lots of (mostly bad) history, and more character than many competing stadiums (*cough*yankeestadium*cough*) but it is in really bad shape. plus the seats don't face the right way.

when is the last time you were there? Its not sparkling clearn or anythjing, but they have dumped a ton of money into adding and replacing seats. The monster, extra rows, the bar over first etc.

I've had the good fortune not only to have Fenway as my home field, but also to have seen the Sox play at Wrigley Field this past June (me and mine are such diehard fans that we DROVE to Chicago... then 5hrs to StL the next day to root for the Cards vs NY!). They are both one of a kind baseball experiences unlike any other.

That said, anyone who things they should stay up forever are sick in the head, and have never been to such modern parks as Camden Yards or PNC. The "dinosars" hold well under 40,000 fans, the seats are horribly uncomfortable, and "obstructed view" seats like this are possible. Yes, there's a seat directly behind the pole. A grown adult's knees would come into contact with it.

I DO agree, however, that the historic names should stay the same. Again, "Oriole Park at Camden Yards" is a good example that keeps the diehards happy as well as the investors. I, for one, am pissed that there is no longer a Boston Garden. "BankNorth Center"? Blah. At least if it was "BankNorth Center at Boston Garden", I could just call it the Garden as always and life would be good. :)
