My brother in-law (university educated Caucasian IT worker) & sister (university educated Asian, middle school teacher) totally eat & live this shit, and they irritated me to no end with their feng shui rhetoric.

They keep telling me how great it is, and that a wealthy Taiwanese friend (a factory owner) got better health and rich right after he practice feng shui. Therefore my sis & her husband are practicing feng shui and are mouth piece for their newfound horoscope/religion/way of life.

Has anyone have similar experience with educated people who believes that their lives are determine by stars & the force of nature (astrology)?

Sorry for the poor engrish.

Sorry... the orientation of my monitor caused your post text to flow from west to east, counteracting the life giving forces of the sun and stars. Could you repeat the question?

Actually, I'd say it's quite a bit less. Sugar pills don't drain your bank accounts.

I wouldn't follow it as a way of life. Just knowing it may be a pretty cool conversation fodder.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui <--- but, this was a rather interesting read.

Obviously, it seems to be a part of the curriculum of architects, landscapers, geographers, and archaeologists.

hehe, i found the following funny :D :
It is entirely inconsistent with Christianity to believe that harmony and balance result from the manipulation and channeling of nonphysical forces or energies, or that such can be done by means of the proper placement of physical objects. Such techniques, in fact, belong to the world of sorcery

Any time you hear some BS artist talk about "energy", keep in mind, energy is defined as "the ability to do work" -- ask them what kind of energy are they talking about: light? heat? kinetic energy? And ask how they think their claims are affecting and producing or absorbing energy.

There is no "energy" that Feng Shui (arranging furniture / walls) can affect, any more than where you put you couch affects your cellphone reception (unless you have an aluminum couch :p ).

Penn and Teller did a thing a while back where they hired three or four Feng Shui artists and they all gave different answers.

My brother is actually an example of that... I don't say anything because I think I've only seen it 3 times in my entire life.

I just called them Traitors.

And most of the white guys can't tell from a hot asian girl from an ugly one. I usually see ugly Asian girls with white guys. =)

feng shui and Qray bracelets allows people to separate the intelligent from the gullible fools who'll believe anything.

oh yeah, they should totally buy an Ionic Breeze system too.

Most of the people talking about feng shui in this thread don't really know what its about. I tend to agree with LS21 that its just good aesthetic design principles like for example not designing an office where you sit with your back to the door.

But yes, feng shui as with anything can be taken too far.

Feng Shui boils down to a belief in geomancy :p
There are obvious ones (don't put your bed in front of a bathroom), but I attribute that more to common sense than channeling the power of nature
