I was seconds away from buying an Epi Les Paul Goth. Then I played it, and I'm glad I did. It was muddy sounding, and honestly was put together like a POS. It might have just been the one I was playing. I went with a lesser known brand in Schecter. I got the Devil Tribal Archtop, and it is the best guitar I've ever played including a Gibson LP Studio. Here is a pic. It sounds 3x as sweet as it looks, and the action is second to none. My friend wants to steal it. I got Seymour Duncan humbuckers instead of the duncan designed ones so the tone is awesome even coming out of a 30W crate solid state. I plugged it into a Mesa/Boogie and nearly creamed myself. And to think I never would have gotten it if I didnt play it.

Eh, I'm not much of a gothic fan, but yeah, I've never seen an Epi gothic that I liked. I can definitely believe what you said about it sounding muddy though. I bought an Epi LP Joe Perry clone and they had the same pickups as would be used in the Epi Gothic. I didn't like the sound much at all, so I brought it back after a month and got the one I have now. The pickups gibson uses in their gothics are super hot though. Crazy.

But yeah, that's a sweet looking guitar :)

Thanks man. I was into the goth mainly for the look (bad I know) I just wanted to play it to seal the deal. Turns out it sucked, so I picked up another one. Eddie Vetter plays a Schecter, or so I hear. I tested a Gibson Goth and was trying to justify the $1500 I would have plunked down.

I didnt know Strats were blues. I guess they are since Clapton plays one. I wasnt sure what genre they were, so I asked my roomie. He said when he thought fender he thought rock. Maybe thats the tele series.

I'm not saying a Strat can't rock.. it sure as hell can.. but they're very bluesy. SRV, Clapton.. etc.
Tele is hmmm.. lots of treble.. lots of twang, if you want it. I really like Telecasters, though. More than strats.

Naw, strats = blues mostly. Hendrix, clapton...

Jimmy Page got a sweet bluesy tone out of his Gibson LP though, so it's definitely a blues guitar, but it's also just such a great rock guitar that it's developed that reputation. BB King plays a gibson hollowbody and if that's not blues... :)

I know what you meant. Any guitar can rock if you want it to. I just wasnt sure what a Strat was designed to do. My friend has Tele, the same one Springsteen plays. Man thats a beautiful guitar.

I would go with the MIM Strat for value. Most of the price difference between MIM and MIA is difference in labor costs; nonetheless the workmanship and quality control on MIM Fenders are very consistent.
