I wanna get ride of these ugly chain link fence with thin metal blinders colored puke green.

What kind of fences are there? I want my neighbor's that's a pure white classy plastic fence. It's a full wall.

Is that called vinyl?

Alright.

1. Where the fack do I start? Fence residential 101 youtube? Some Home Depot 101 vid?
2. What's the general price range? What about the old fence removal fee?
3. Best way to find these fencing companies?

I live in Northern NJ. My lawn is teeny (2000~ sf). I know because my parents had half an acre. But it's a really cutesy backyard and I want to really dress it up and functionally make it better too.

9-15 a linear foot if you hire someone. It's a lot more expensive than you think it is.

That's funny. I was just exploring this.

Be prepared to shell out, man. The neighbor on one side said I could attach to their fence so I basically need 2 lengths of fence to complete it. My backyard is about 2500 sq ft.

I talked to 2 firms who used google maps to give me an estimate. Both are over $10,000. lol

Its not that much money but I'm just not in the mood to write a $10,000 check right now. The plastic is more expensive iirc. Wood is cheaper.

I like vine fences. You get them all pre grown kinda pricey. OR you can just let some vines grow on your fence you won't see the chains in a couple of years.

We have chain link fence here, but, I do like the look of wooden fences quite a bit better. Just never had any reason to take down the fence that was already in the yard when I bought the house. Maybe after I take care of roof, new windows, new shed, etc ...

Vinyl ain't so hot if you have trees or misfits around. If it's under a tree prepare to clean it every few years of green alge stuff. If you have misfits with say soccer balls, baseballs, etc prepare to have replacement panels available.

Don't let any trees grow near them and crush them like ah vinyl.

the perimeter of my backyard is 460 feet. recently had it fenced with 6 in treated posts and woven wire horse fence. 8k installed. 60+ posts and they did it all by hand. f-that.

a couple small runs? buy the pre-made panels and put new posts in. rent the auger from home depot. sack of concrete in each hole after the post. string line for setting them level. easy.

I like cedar the best. and horizontal boards looks nice.

i love to use craigslist: "free if you remove" we got a whole kitchen demoed for free! and they even paid us for the appliances that they moved out.

Just go with wood. It's cheap and will give you 10-20 years easily. Mine is in need of replacement now after 20 years of faithful service. I'm paying for the fence and my neighbor is hiring the team to install it. Doing mine in the next month or so.

You can do it yourself by just dropping 4x4 posts into the ground so many feet and 2x4 braces between them and then just fence panels to cover it all up.

I have 10' utility easement in back of property. How is it usually handled in terms of building a fence there?

We originally had a split rail fence but a few years back replaced it with a 6' high black aluminum fence. Fences are expensive, this cost us around 8k and I used Washington Consumer Checkbook to select companies to get bids from. The folks we used did a great job at the contracted price and we are real happy with the fence. Our dogs can't get out which was the primary consideration.when we had it installed. Looks very similar to this one: http://fenceprova.com/aluminum/Aluminum/3.jpg

Just wanted to give you an update so I'm not leaving you guys hanging.

1. I signed up for few free quotes around me to remove current metal chain link fence & get rid of it + install new fence that matches the neighbor's.

2. I was quoted $1200 for a mere 20' of fence LOLWTF at 9' height.

Meh. Over the course of next two weeks, I did some landscaping and planted two green giant arborvitae (5 footers). I guess as 'little' as 2 years I'll get a natural privacy from them. Ugh 2-4 years though.

I wonder how chain link pricing is going to be due to the tariffs.

I was surprised that prefab vinyl sections were almost $20/foot from home depot. WTF?

Also, consult with your neighbors and see if they'll split the cost. It benefits them too.

usually, if it is fenced, there must be a gate that is not locked. we had some phone and whatever boxes in our yard and had to have an unlocked gate.
