I have a female engineer friend who married a non-engineer (but they had been together since high school, before they decided their careers).

I know a female who is majoring in engineering (Materials Engineer) and she is the most boring person I have ever met. She has nothing to offer men, let alone society. I know a few other students majoring in engineering, and let me tell you, these people are "different."

If some non-engineer-type (I say type, because I think it's more important to have simply the same mentality rather than vocation) man was wading in my potential dating pool I'd be seriously pissed. That's just uncouth.

I'd like to meet a biologist or something. I just want to be around someone who is passionate about something, and I don't want it to be entirely me; emotional and intellectual independence is a good thing.

In all honesty, I do know one female mech engineer who is VERY attractive, and of course she also happens to be married to a civil eng. And when I say attractive, I mean she passes the most stringent test of all - the bikini test. (and NO, I do not have any pics of her in a bikini. Only mental images)
