Female Avatars?

This may be a stupid question, but why do people that are clearly male, on the various tech forums(including this one), pick women to portray them when they post? Especially if the username is foreign, or androgynous sounding?

I have been trying to figure this out.
 
I really did graduate high school. though I really should change, that was a long time ago, and I hate HS

Actually, usually, in games, the females are lighter, faster, and hotter looking, and that's why I choose them.

Hahaha that reminded me of when i played tribes - I was a female because they were a lot skinnier and harder to hit... but I had a man voice hahaha good times

I thought the hitbox was the same size.
