Felons Getting Hunting Licenses

I don't understand what the big deal is. felons can't have guns. getting a hunting license doesn't allow you to get a gun. there are other ways of hunting without guns.
so what exactly is the problem? is it just people from the city who have no idea what they are talking about getting upset or what?

I thought felons could still hunt with shotguns, but could not posess handguns like pistols, etc. Am I wrong?

If you're a felon, you can't legally own a firearm.

Edit: I can sort of see the concern here. Felons can hunt with bow and arrow, true, but some of the permits that were issued were for birds. You can't hunt birds with a bow and arrow very easily.

It's still pretty stupid that people are getting worked up about this when the majority are probably legally hunting with bow and arrow.

to my understanding, felons can't PURCHASE guns. However, they are permitted to use them in a legal manner.

Thanks to Senator Laughtenberg (sp?), you don't even have to be a felon to lose that right. Just smack your spouse, and get convicted of spousal abuse, and you can't legally own a firearm.

I understand the reason why he sponsored that law, but that's a bit overboard for likely the majority of cases. Oh yeah, and it's already cost some military members to have to retrain for different career fields, since they can no longer legally possess a firearm, in any fashion. That's just silly, imho.

The last thing we need is scumbags like you owning a gun. Today you are smacking your wife, tomorrow you are shooting her. Almost happened to my friend but thank goodness he couldn't get the gun locker open or she'd be dead.

Black powder rifles and pistols are not considered firearms in the eyes of the law. You can hunt with those.
