My friend's birthday is coming up and I want to buy my friend a birthday cake... it'd be for a party of about 10 people. My friend doesn't like foods that are overly sweet nor fatty so that rules out most American cakes as well as cheesecakes.

So, does anyone know any special bakery where they sell good, tasty cakes in NYC? Budget is $50.

goto any of the bakery in chinatown, they have exactly what you are looking for, creamy not too sweet frosting, not to mention nicely decorated.

ps: didn't read the non fatty part, so it might be tough, but they do have a lot of cakes with fruits topping/inside.

Or maybe a black and white cookie.

The thing about eating the black and white cookie is you want to get some black and some white in each bite. Nothing mixes better than vanilla and chocolate. And yet somehow racial harmony eludes us. If people would only look to the cookie all our problems would be solved.

Try Panya in east village. It's a Japanese bakery and they do birthday decorations as well.

Sponge cake @ chinatown FTW

'American' cake is a rip compared to what you can get for $50 @ chinatown :D

I'd recommend you to atleast try a portion for $1.75 atleast...
