Feels like it's a shame to pour BBQ sauce on $7.50/lb steak

A steak restaurant I go to, there is a warning under the steaks on the menu that it's not recommended to cook steaks past medium as they lose flavor. Still, my brothers gf gets it well done.

Gah, actually well? Or medium well? Well-done is horrible, man. I know some people who like theirs medium-well, and even that is verging on madness.

Whenever someone tells me this, I always just assume they have never actually had a rare steak. My GF was the exact same way, until I refused to pay $200 for a steak she was going to ruin and forced her to get rare. She can't go back.

bought choice whole packer brisket at walmart for memorial day at ~$1.70/lb.

even in an area where no one sells much brisket, that seems like a high price, JEDI. is that trimmed?

Did u have to order in advance or was it walk-in??

I'm a medium rare guy. I like it to just be just firmed up, so it stands up to the knife.

bought beef brisket at Costco today. $7.50/lb
saw it at 5.99/lb earlier this year.

ribeye is $8.99/lb.

since its so close to ribeye pricing, I thought of buying the ribeyes.
but wanted bbq beef brisket and the only reason why I went to Costco in the 1st place.

corrorary: I wouldn't pour bbq sauce on ribeyes and since beef brisket is so close in pricing, I shiouldnt pour it on brisket either

first world problem.

A1 I still like on regular steaks, if I get something good I like

Not too fancy I guess, but I love that stuff on a rare cooked good steak.

BBQ sauce I reserve for Pork and Chicken personally.

Would work well on a brisket too I imagine, hadn't tried it, will have too, maybe on the rotiesserie even, to be odd.

Never tried that stuff, but I would like to! They have it in grocery stores?

I like medium/medium rare sometimes with a little salted butter. No sauce for me. :Colbert:

use the sauce on the brisket, don't worry about the price. definitely agree with the sentiment BBQ sauce on a ribeye would just make it worse.

the costco by me has Prime Rib-Eye at around 14.99 a pound, choice for 8.99. gonna have to do a side by side taste test soon.

love MR on any decent to great steak. anything above medium is a crime. might as well put varnish on it.

Rib-eye or NY Strip steak gets salt and a thin coating of oil then gets cooked rare to medium rare, then lots of ground tellicherry black pepper and that's it. Side dish is usually a baked potato with sour cream and chopped chives.

Filet Mignon gets the sauce usually Bordelaise sauce.

Ketchup is only for burgers and fries.

Christ, the good stuff up here is upwards of $30/lb. You Americans have it good when it comes to meat.

They probably cook it way below Well Done, and they don't know any different.

I actually remember going out one time and someone did that and they basically brought out something that looked like a piece of charcoal.

I may have laughed a bit.

The missus is from China...she ain't never had a good steak until she moved in with me. Now she shudders when she sees a well done steak.

Why in the heck do people ruin a perfectly good cut of beef by turning it into tasteless dry rubber? It's why I do not take my in-laws to a steak house.

As for sauce on the steak...I'm ok with a very tiny bit for flavoring depending on my mood but I see people drown the steak in sauce. If it's a good cut of beef, there is no way in hell I'm touching it with steak sauce. I'm here for steak, if I wanted to taste only steak sauce, I'd drink it out of the bottle.

I've got an invite from some of our business partners if I'm ever down in the Cowboy's neck of the woods to go to a few steak houses. Heard they're better down in Texas than up here in the northeast.
