Hello everyone, its been awhile since I have posted and its around this time that I'm feeling the upgrading itch again. I was hoping if anyone could suggest for me on what would need to upgrade or not.

Rig # 1
CPU: i7 920
MB: Evga SLI LE
Mem: 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600mhz
HD : 2 Western Digital blue 500GB
CPU cooler: Coolermaster V8
Casing: Lian Li PC-P50
VC: Evga GTX285 2GB
PSU: Corsair TX850
Monitor: HP 23 HDMI 1920x1080

Rig # 2
CPU: i7 920
MB: ASUS P6T
Mem: 6GB Corsair XMS3 16000mhz
HD : 2 Western Digital blue 640GB
CPU cooler: Thermalright 120 black edition
Casing: Lian Li X500
VC: (2)Evga GTX275 1792MB in SLI
PSU: Corsair TX850
Monitor: HP 24 HDMI 1920x1200

I feel the itch and was thinking if my current setup is still ok since I only built these two rigs about a year ago or should I have the need to upgrade certain parts or not.

thanks in advance!

P.S. Basically I just want to make sure my rigs will be able to play flawlessly for "Shogun II Total war" and Crysis 2 for next year

The only thing I would consider buying right now is a SSD. Other than that, I'd hold off one more generation before upgrading either rig's graphics cards. The processors / motherboards / memory are still very solid.

Do you think getting say a 120GB SSD for a new OS *since both rigs still run on Vista* would suffice and when your saying hold off, are you talking about holding off on GTX4** series and 5*** series of cards? thanks for the insight btw! :)

...when there are games released that you cannot play to your satisfaction, then upgrade. :)

 This!

OP, your rigs are already pretty damn stacked. As suggested, an upgrade to Windows 7 and SSDs are about the only reasonable upgrades at this point.

hmmm well I am anticipating Final Fantasy XIV, would that game give my rigs a hard time, did a benchmark for the game (downloaded from the FF website) and there was a split second delay per frame. and With Shogun 2 Total war around the corner, I noticed the game relies alot of CPU power *Quad* as it does graphics card, so that's why I was thinking of upgrading soon. Read that the new 6*** and GTX5** are just refresh cards and nothing really next gen, I was thinking would it be a good idea to wait for those cards to come out and see the prices drop for the 5*** series and GTX4** series of cards and just get those cards instead or might as well wait till late of next year for next big thing??

When you sya SSD, do you mean get an SSD for use as an OS drive?? Its just looking at the SSDs they still cost much in some way and I dont really see that being able to load up windows, transfer files, and load games 3-8 seconds faster is worth the extra $100 just yet. and the only real reason I would upgrade to Windows 7 is if Vista (the one that is installed for both rigs) is not useful anymore, which it is still for me that is and for DX11 which I don't see much of a difference from DX10

Ha, if only SSDs were just about booting Windows and copying files, I would be a much richer man. The thing is, it is EVERY SINGLE THING that you do from the desktop that will benefit from an SSD.

I'm confused. You already have 2 very fast quads.

Both rigs are better than 95% of what other people have. Your next platform/GPU upgrade doesn't look like it's coming for quite a while. Only thing I see holding the other parts back is the HDD. I might consider getting two 500GB F1's and R0'ing them. Could even throw on an SSD to boot.

sounds good to me, finally thought it through and decided to get an SSD for each rig and on the SLI'd rig thinking of just putting a pair of GTX480s and put the GTX275s towards the other rig and use the 285 for physics. Would that do the job good?

The SSD's sound good.

If you were rocking a 30" monitor, I would agree with you about the GPU's, but at 1080P, it doesn't seem worth it. If you really must spend a grand on the display, get one of the aforementioned 30" monitors.

actually got 3 Acer 23.6inch 120hz monitors *see first part of my thread regarding Nvidia 3D vision surround*, so in 5760x1080 resolution I think duel maybe even 3-way SLI would fit the bill. (CORRECTION, sorry wrong reply for this thead, was thinking on the other thread of mine regarding another new rig of mine.)
