Feeling somewhat disappointed by early looks at Simcity 5

No terraforming, city size confirmed 2k x 2k, no subways............Besides the always on DRM and multiplayer effecting cities crap, this is just killing it.

I keep playing Simcity 3000. It works great, looks good, makes sense, easy on the system, probably has the best music, and theres no bullshit DRM.

Seriously no subways? Why would they not include something that has been in the game for ages? I also wish you could do mixed zoning in the sense that you could mix commercial and residential zones to create walkable communities.

Nope, no subways, but I guess when you have a max size of 2k x 2k you don't need them lol. They should rename this to SimTown.

Ugh. Reminds me of Civ 5 streamlined crap. Just not enough depth to keep me entertained. Dumb down to where it's just a exploitative at best. Ideally I think having to spend time laying pipes underground for water and power lines was redundant, but regionizing cities to 2k x 2k pretty much kills the fulfillment of creating a robust working city. Will someone ever stand up and make a real city managing simulator again? Even with the financial capital of EA, it doesn't seem possible.

As far as detailed infrastructure games I have found nothing compares to OpenTTD. I still don't have train signal multi tracks figured out yet. The amount of downloadable content for that game allows for so much expandability it can make your head spin.

While I certainly appreciated the graphics in the Simcity series, and note improved accessibility in Maxis games. If you are a hardcore micromanagaing player there can't be enough detail mofo, where there is loads in OpenTTD. Multiplayer can be tricky, but works well when you/server know what you are doing.

I'm paraphrasing one of the game designers said over at SimCity Forum which he said, "Sim City is a reboot of the original Sim City, not a sequel. We do not need to add anything into a reboot because it was never planned for it". Then why call it SimCity? Are the makers of Far Cry 2 chanting the same mantra about how their game was just a reboot of the original Far Cry? Games, like with any other title, name, or proper noun, have a legacy to uphold and they're ostracizing it.

Seriously. It's SimTown for adults. Only the original had cooler structures (that were clickable with a variety of easter eggs).

That wouldn't necessarily be a bad game on its own, but it certainly does not fill the void that remains without a proper Simcity sequel.

SimCity was the first "real" game I ever played, and is by far my favorite series of games, despite not having played a Simcity game in almost a decade now.

I was very excited about this game, but reading some of your opinions now, I am beginning to think it will be disappointing.
