I've just got to vent about this!
My wife purchased a 50mm 1.8 lens for my birthday the first of July. On the box was a big gold star with the words 5 YEARS OF PROTECTION INCLUDED. As I have always been I was impressed with Nikon and with a 5 year warranty on my new lens. I've never returned the registration that comes w/ many products because it's not required for the warranty and usually just means you will get a bunch of crap mail. I never looked at the box again until tonight.
I've just discovered that the lens only has a 1 year warranty and that I needed to fill out the form and return it within 10 days of purchase to get the other 4 years. Even if I had looked at the box and noticed this...it was too late already. As most sensible humans do...my wife had bought the gift about a month before and of course she never looked at the box for that kind of info.
I guess we're in the wrong here because she didn't spend time studying the package...but I certainly don't blame her.
Is this normal for Nikon? I haven't bought new camera gear in a long time and maybe this is typical now. It sure seems like a sneaky way to advertise a warranty knowing many well intentioned people will miss it.
Would have been nice for B&H to have made this more clear during ordering so my wife would have caught it.
Bah!!! Just had to vent!
