I have a 2002 dodge stratus (2.7l V6) and it's been quite the piece of shit the past 4 years. Recently the fuel pump started going out, which almost left me stranded multiple times. I change my own oil but have never ventured into fixing major problems. Last Tuesday I had 3 extra hours off of work, so I went home and dropped the whole fuel tank and replaced the pump. It took me quite a few hours, but mainly because I was trying to be very careful with all the hoses and wires.
Then last Friday my starter finally bit the dust. I knew it was going to happen because it was blowing fuses all the time and I had already replaced the relay. Luckily it happened on a weekend. Started the project yesterday for a few hours and then ran out of daylight (car broke down in the middle of the street and not enough man power to push it up the incline to the garage.) Then worked on it for another 4 hours today and was able to get the starter replaced.
I was hoping for easy fixes on both, but they were actually pretty major fixes. I feel pretty confident now that I can fix almost anything in my car now 🙂
Oh yeah, and to all the futures mechanics out there, NEVER let anyone borrow your tools, even if they are your friend. I had to go to the store multiple times because my friend lost a bunch of my sockets a while back when he borrowed my tools 🙁 I've learned my lesson and won't be doing that again.
