Feeling lightheaded in the mornings ...

Every morning when I wake up I feel really lightheaded, my legs feel like jelly, I can barely put a coherent thought together & sometimes a little dizzy as well.

It's nothing that a good cup of coffee doesn't cure, but I'm not sure if all that is entirely normal. I'm within 5 pounds of my ideal bodywieght, don't smoke, family history of diabetes.

I don't have medical insurance right now, so I don't want an expense if I can avoid it.

Any1else feel the same way?

Is this a significant change from your normal waking behavior? If so, can you pinpoint about when it started. If it is a major change, I would see a doctor.

I would definitely get it checked. My health is worth a lot more to me than a few hundred bucks.

I first noticed it about 3 months ago, its a bit more pronouced & pretty regular now.

I eat 4 times a day, small but regular meals. I cut back on sodium & sugar over a year. I get regular excercize with some light wieghts and running with my dog.

My usual diet would be some cereal or a muffin with coffee in the morning. A sandwhich of sorts along with a fruit or diet soda. A light evening snack of some NYC street food followed by a regular dinner. The only bane in my diet is beer, but never more than 2 every other weekday.

What is your body weight?

You say you are eating four small meals a day.. Exactly how small are we talking here?

You might not be eating enough..

Do you feel lightheaded and dizzy when you first get out of bed?

This could be something called 'orthostatic hypotension,' which is a fancy way of saying that your blood pressure too low when you stand up or get out of bed. Sometimes orthostatic hypotension can be relatively inconsequential, other times it is a sign of a more serious medical problem.

It wouldn't hurt to get a checkup by a competent doc that has some experience with the cardiovascular system (i.e. a cardiologist would be best, but a good family medicine doc would be ok too).

Good luck -- it's probably nothing to worry about. :)

What about your blood sugar levels? You say that coffee helps. Are you putting sugar or creamer in your coffee. I used to have really bad dizzy and lightheaded spells in the early AM. Turns out it was blood sugar related. Try eating something really sweet when you feel like that and if you feel okay shortly afterwards, it could clue you in.

I usually put in 2 spoons of cane sugar in my coffee. My dad's side of the family has a bad history of diabetes (inc. my dad) - and Indians are prone to diabetes anyway so I try to avoid sugars as much as possible, altho I do eat twiks and snikers ice cram bars atleast 2-3 times a week

Your RMR Average From All Methods
Your Average RMR is 1677 Calories per day.

This is about what your body needs to maintain its current weight, if in theory, you were at "rest" 24 hours of the day.
So, since you do not "sleep" 24 hours of the day, and you do have activity during the day, you actually need more than that 1677 calories..

Thanks, I've never been a calorie counter but I guess it's time to start.

Appreciate all the advice folks, I'll up my food intake and hope for the best. If it persists after this week, Im going to a doctor.

Its not really difficult.
And you really don't have to be picky, and count everything.. It just sounds like you do not have the proper intake...
Just pump up the food, and you should start to feeling better
