Feeling helpful now...any OTC questions for this pharmacist?

whats the LD 50 of xanax? had some friends arguing over wether you could kill yourself on it. they say that if you take enough it will work. i say that modern drugs are designed to be suicide proof, and even then it did kill you it would be a slow and painful death by liver failure.

What are some of the unlabeleled uses for Modafinil and why would a Dr prescribe a schedule IV drug for someone with an known addictive personality (although not drugs)?

Looks like Gimli43Orcs may have fallen asleep so I'll try to help

The acute oral LD50 in rats is 331-2171 mg/kg. Other experiments in animals have indicated that cardiopulmonary collapse can occur following massive intravenous doses of alprazolam (over 195 mg/kg; 975 times the maximum recommended daily human dose of 10 mg/day). Animals could be resuscitated with positive mechanical ventilation and the intravenous infusion of norepinephrine bitartrate.

from here
Current drugs are not suicide proof. If they were, or you couldn't harm yourself, they wouldn't be Rx only. That being said, everything has an LD50, even water

Here is a list of what I found using Micromedix:
Depression
Fatigue
Fibromyalgia
Myotonic Dystrophy
Narcolepsy
Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome
Organic Brain Syndrome
Shift Work Sleep Disorder
Sleep Deprivation
Somnolence - drug induced

Can't answer your second question. I would love to know what some doctors are thinking some times

what's the best OTC sleeping pill?
diphenhydramine (aka Benedryl) in my opinion

h8red,

Farbio:
I have no problems answering the question because I already gave the answer - for rats. And on top of that if he has access to this many xanax tablets..... lets just say there are serious problems

331-2171 mg/kg for rats exprapolated to humans, assuming an average male weighs 175 lbs which equals 79.5 kg (let's just say 80 kg OK)

331 mg/kg x 80 kg= 26480 mg !!
2171 mg/kg x 80 kg = 173680 mg !!

Now assuming that you take 2 mg tablets (I think this is the largest strength available) the LD 50 for adult males with a weight of 80 kg is somewhere between 13,240 tablets and 86,840 tablets so as you can see it's not a trivial matter to try to kill someone with xanax. Please someone correct my math if I am wrong
