OK so this guy from work just bought prats for a pretty badass computer! It is for his dad but he is going to run it for 2 months before he sends it to him. Well he had never built a comp before so it was practice for when he builds himself one. He also of course knows nothing about SATA or RAID so people at work recommended me to help so I go over to his room finishing putting the comp together and set it all up for him. His current comp was a Sony Vaio that his dad bought him because his eMachine that he had bought i dunno how many months ago? crapped out on him. He was all greatful and cursed his old eMachine which he said he has no need for. I told him it prob just needs to be formatted and it will be good to go.... so he offers it to me. I asked him repeatidly if he was sure and he said yes so thinking it was a total peice of crap I take it...

I bring it to my room and... it has a PNY FX5200 128mb vid card but PCI since the mobo doesn't have AGP, 56k modem, floppy, a WD 5400rpm 80gb HD, 512mb pc2100 ram, an decent lil mobo dunno what brand intel chipset with onboard video sound and lan, a DVD drive and a burner both of which are samsung but have these stupid plastic bubble face plates on them, and an intel 2.3ghz celeron.

yeah it isn't some sort of dream machine but I thinik it is a lot better then what he might have thought? and definitely worth more parted out then he thought so what do I do? give it back? format, set it up right and give it back? sel it and give him half, or keep it and do what I wish with it?!?!

if he wasn't a good friend and you didn't charge him for your services building and setting up the PC for his dad, think of it as a little something for your time. And as you said, he did offer it to you.

ditch the mobo and CPU (ebay), replace with a better combination. Tell him that you had to replace the motherboard and CPU and after quite a bit of work you were able to get it running like a good computer. - - - that's telling him the truth. Just leaving out parts :)
