I think it was a huge huge overreaction, but since when did the stock market make sense?

Another reason to tie social security payments to the stock market ala G. Dubya. Go broke over night. that would sure stress out a weak hearted octigenerian!;)

Mr. TripleShooter:

It is NOBODY's intention to tie your social
security Pennies from Heaven to Intel's stock.

Some people do feel, however, that since
the hard working slobs of America are forced to
put 15% of every dollar they earn into Social Security,
they should have they option to receive a half decent
return on their involuntary investment.

Tripleshot, US bonds didn't move an inch when Intel's stock fell. Your privatized retirement accounts would have been unaffected, had they been tied to bonds. And your humble bond-based account would still give you a 2-3x better return that socialist security. ;)

Do you really want the gov't to have stock interest in public companies?

Well. I don't like to see when people lose a handful of their money. I might not be so sinister as others who enjoy watching others suffer.

Intel had a market cap of 500 billion? Holy crap, talk about over-valued.

Tripleshot,

I'll tell you what. You can go ahead and keep your money in that Ponzi scheme and get a long term return even worse than a passbook savings account. I'd prefer to get a REAL return on my money.

SoCalConman,

I don't enjoy watching them suffer but I also don't feel sympathy for them. Investing in the stock market is a risk venture and they know this going in. If you can't accept the consequences of your actions then you should not be doing it.
